What are we getting so wrong about the gun control debate?

There is often much discussion about the similarities between Australian gun laws and American guns laws. In fact, many people take the opportunity to point how successful Australia has been in disarming crime and taking guns out of the hands of every day people.

The failing point of these arguments, however, is that America and Australia started in very different places and, as a result, our laws have developed differently.
